The Joyce Forum: A Focus on Emerging Filmmakers (Joyce Forum) (Joyce Forum) presents outstanding Jewish-themed short-subject, documentary, and feature films by student and early-career filmmakers from all over the world. Named in honor of SDJFF Founder Joyce Axelrod, the Joyce Forum supports these emerging filmmakers by showcasing their talent and exposing their work to established filmmakers, artists, and industry peers. Films are selected through a juried process from an international call for entries to film schools, festivals, and emerging filmmakers.
The Joyce Forum is a vibrant component of the San Diego Jewish Film Festival, one of the largest and most prestigious festivals of its kind in the country, and is one of the highest attended cultural events in San Diego. This year‘s festival will once again feature a Joyce Forum Day on Monday, February 12, 2007. The full-day program offers feature length films during the day including introductions and audience Q & A discussions with the Joyce Forum filmmakers, a box–dinner option, and the popular Joyce Shorts during an evening presentation.
Joyce Forum Day includes:
Filmmaker Symposium: Joyce Forum filmmakers are invited to enjoy a hosted gathering to meet behind- the-scenes and talk about film production in an intimate gathering of SDJFF guest artists consisting of actors, scholars, and filmmakers.
Filmmaker Spotlight: Prior to a screening, one or more of the Joyce Forum filmmakers will discuss a specific aspect of their work on topics such as: film scoring, editing, screenwriting, etc.
Joyce Shorts program: Film presentations featuring short-subject films, followed by Q&A discussion with the filmmakers, facilitated by an industry professional.
The Joyce Forum is presented in association with The Jewish Filmmaker's Forum at University of Southern California and San Diego's BestFest Student Film Festival.
