The Joyce Forum: A Focus on Emerging Filmmakers (Joyce Forum) recognizes outstanding Jewish-themed short-subject and feature length films by student and early-career filmmakers from all over the world.
The Joyce Forum is a vibrant component of the San Diego Jewish Film Festival, one of the largest and most highly respected international Jewish film festivals in the world. Named in honor of Film Festival Founder Joyce Axelrod, the Joyce Forum supports and advances exceptional emerging filmmakers by showcasing their talent and providing them exposure to established filmmakers and industry peers through public screenings and dialogue forums. Films are selected through a juried process from an international call for submissions to film schools and festivals.
Joyce Forum Benefits: Invited Filmmakers have honored guest status throughout the Film Festival, travel expenses may be covered, and they are invited to attend all programs, including underwriter events.
Joyce Forum Criteria: Student and early-career filmmakers who have not yet received a commercial theatrical release or commercial distribution.
The Annual Joyce Forum includes two elements:
- Shorts in Winter (Parts 1 & 2): A public program, in two parts, featuring Joyce Forum shorts at the AMC La Jolla 12 Theatres, followed by Q&A with the filmmakers.
- Feature Presentation: A screening of a feature-length film by a selected emerging filmmaker.
