Twenty-three artists answer with their work.


Twenty-three Los Angeles artists, who have been meeting as the Jewish Artists Initiative, offer an alternative to the idea that Jewish subject matter is limited to issues of identity. Some artists work Jewish themes; others choose to work within an artistic, historical context while adhering to Jewish sensibility.

Local, regional and national artists will participate in this season's invitational show. The Chanukah menorah is one of the most popular of Jewish ritual artifacts and each artist will be creating his or her interpretation of this familiar holiday object.

Rhea Carmi is an Israeli-born artist living in Los Angeles. Her mixed media canvases reflect the human condition by exploring the past while offering hope for the future through their passionate display of texture and color.
